A nice article on how an american named Frank Morales got interested spirituality in 10 years, and found the answer in Hinduism. Later, he became a teacher in one of the hindu temples, because of his deep understanding of Hinduism.
He has changed his name to Sri Dharma Pravartaka Acharya, and runs the following portal
More and more americans and europeans are realising the inherent spirituality of Hinduism. According to Frank Morales, there are around 1.5 million americans who are deeply interested in Hinduism.
A great news to hear about.
Only a lamp will drive away the darkness. And Hinduism will certainly make people more accepting.
It is high time that Hindus, especially the Arya Samaj come forward to convert people of other faiths into Hinduism as unlike other dogmatic religions, Hinduism does not have rigid set of rules and regulation to adhere or preach hatred ness against other religions. Hinduism is a way of life; it is about how to lead an ethical life in harmony with nature.
Srinivas …that’s an odd comment … I mean, the primary complaint heard on blogs like this is that other religions, particularly Christianity, is obsessed with ‘increasing their flock’ , so to speak, and you’ll perceive this as a major threat to your fragile religious beliefs.
Isn’t it hypocrisy to at the same time ask for Hindus to convert people of other faiths to Hinduism ?? Religious beliefs are highly personal beliefs, why do you find the need to propagate and try and convert others? Shouldn’t you find faith and be secure in your own religious ideas and views, without trying to worry so much about what’s happening to others?
Do Note, I’m not condoning Christian missionaries either, I’m quite against their policies and their manner of functioning. I’m merely trying to point out the holier-than-thou attitude that seems to be pervading the blogosphere these days about how Hindus need to fight back and take more people into their fold, based solely on beliefs like “Hinduism is a way of life; it is about how to lead an ethical life in harmony with nature”.
Dear SM,
What you have said is the root cause of all our ills.. its just a gandhian disease, i should say.. when some one attacks you, its natural, that we should fight back.. but, what you mean is “See.. when he attacks us, we have so much pain.. so if we retaliate, he will also have pain.. so we should not attack him”.. there is nothing more needed than a self-inflicting death than this..
How would you feel secure, when all your neighbours are under attack?
How will you bring back those already converted, if you dont attempt for converting..
And can you assure, that those missionaries had stopped conversion?
dear SM,
I have a question, i have fallen in love with a guy whom i love dearly, and he says the he is the same, but he says that we can never be together because i am australian and he is hindu. is it possible to convert. Is it ok to marry or date out of your religion. i dont want too loose him.
please help
